Social Security adds 35 conditions to the Compassionate Allowances Program |
December 17, 2012 The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced that there are 35 new Compassionate Allowances, bringing the total number of Compassionate Allowances to 200. Compassionate Allowances are a way to quickly identify diseases and other medical conditions that obviously meet Social Security’s standards for disability benefits, such as certain cancers, adult brain disorders, and a number of rare disorders that affect children. The Compassionate Allowances program means that people with these disabilities who apply for benefits get them much more quickly. Since 2008, nearly 200,000 people with severe disabilities have been quickly approved for benefits, usually in less than two weeks. Click here to learn more about Compassionate Allowances. |
